This Hyphen Changes EVERYTHING

State of Ease

When our bodies are in a state of EASE, there is optimal function, healing, and cell repair. As you know, this is all controlled by our brain and nerve system. It means there is a healthy response to any stress around us – physical, chemical and/or emotional. If you gardened for 8 hours, and you rarely spend time doing that activity, would you be surprised to be sore the next day or two? You would be sore from inflammation, which is a healthy response as tissues are repaired. Would it surprise you to have a headache that lasted a few hours after you had an argument with your spouse or children? You would expect to feel bloated and heavy after eating a meal full of carbohydrates. Our bodies heal fully and there are no lasting effects when we are in a state of EASE.

Symptoms Can Be Healthy

Even when we are stricken with a fever, our body is in a state of EASE. The body is healing by increasing our internal temperature to stimulate our immune system, and decrease the efficiency of bacteria and viruses. There is evidence showing that when Tylenol (or other fever lowering drugs) is taken, it actually takes longer to heal from the infection. Food poisoning is another example. A healthy response is for your body to recognize the toxin and get rid of it – quickly.

Dis-ease = Disconnection

DIS-EASE, or ‘lack of ease’, is when there is less than normal healing and cell repair. When subluxation occurs, it limits the amount of body to brain connection, and as you know, decreases function, healing and cell repair. When DIS-EASE begins, there are few, if any, symptoms to signal to you that a problem is occurring. Can you have tooth decay, cancer, joint degeneration, diabetes or blood vessel damage without symptoms or pain? We all know someone diagnosed with cancer, who didn’t live very long after they were diagnosed. Screening tests for cancer and other diseases only exist because we can’t rely on symptoms to tell us how well we’re functioning. Why do children or adults with no symptoms get adjusted? To make sure they’re at EASE!

“You treat a disease…you win…you lose. You treat a person, I guarantee you, you’ll win, no matter what the outcome.” ~ Dr. Hunter “Patch” Adams

Dis-ease to Disease

By just removing a hyphen, we move from dis-ease to disease.  A DISEASE is a “disorder of structure or function, especially one that produces specific signs or symptoms or that affects a specific location and is not simply a direct result of physical injury.” This is where much of western medicine has invested time, energy and resources. When a specific set of symptoms or signals can be classified, guidelines can be followed to treat that disease. Patients are given something from the outside, with the belief that it is required for any healing to occur. DISEASE treatment can be life-saving, but it never creates a higher level of healing and function.

  • I have been suffering with neck and back pain and lack of mobility since my early teens and I am now 27, but I have progressively had a harder time coping with it since I started working in Healthcare in 2019. It had gotten to the point where all I could think about was finding a different job throughout my shift because I wasn't sure how much longer I could handle it. I decided to give Chiropractic Medicine a try and I am so thankful I did! I have been going to Ancaster Family Chiropractic since July 2021 and I have experienced a significant improvement with reduced severity and frequency of pain, better range of motion in my neck and back, and I rarely have to take OTC pain medication which is something I was relying on daily beforehand. I am not even halfway through my treatment plan and I can't wait to continue experiencing improvement in my quality of life. Thank you, Dr. Neil, Sue and Deb!
